The Case for Hydrogen as an Alternative Fuel

The Pollution-Free Planet Foundation strongly recommends the use of Hydrogen as a replacement for petroleum. Use of Hydrogen as a fuel completely eliminates 100% of the pollutants from internal combustion engine exhaust while providing better performance than other Alternative Fuels. Hydrogen is entirely renewable, the supply is inexhaustible, and it is clean and economical to produce. Properly handled, Hydrogen is safer than gasoline. If spilled or leaked, it immediately dissipates completely into the atmosphere without environmental damage or expensive cleanup. Hydrogen produced with energy from solar, wind, or hydroelectric power does not deplete fossil fuel supplies or produce pollution by its manufacture while offering a huge economic potential for export to national and international energy markets. Extraction of Hydrogen from municipal wastes such as sewage and garbage produces a fuel supply while at the same time preventing the release of methane, one of the most damaging greenhouse gases, into the atmosphere.

Adantages

- Hydrogen fuel allows minus emission vehicles that clean the air. Clean air reduces health care costs and improves the attraction of tourism and incoming businesses to large metropolitan areas.

- Hydrogen produces better engine performance than other Alternative Fuels when used with the proper injectors.

- Hydrogen is entirely renewable and its production and use are totally nonpolluting.

- Hydrogen can be produced locally and ends dependence on foreign oil. The United States could easily produce enough Hydrogen fuel to replace all the petroleum imported to North America from the Middle East. This would eliminate the transfer of hundreds of billions of dollars from the United States economy to those of the Middle Eastern oil producing nations.

- Use of Hydrogen ends the danger, expense, and disastrous ecological damage of oil spills.

- If produced from water by Solar electrolysis, Hydrogen can be generated at the filling station eliminating the need for transport by pipelines or truck.

- Hydrogen fuel reduces engine wear and maintenance costs.

- Production of Hydrogen from biomass reduces the release of methane, one of the most damaging greenhouse gases, into the atmosphere.

- Local production of Hydrogen provides almost unlimited business opportunities for entrepreneurs and existing businesses.

- Use of Hydrogen as fuel slows global warming and greatly reduces depletion of petroleum, a valuable resource.

- Sources of Hydrogen are universally available to all countries, drastically reducing the potential for rivalries and hostilities over energy supplies.
